Carlsbad, “The Village by the Sea” is filled with outdoor activities to keep you and your fellow travelers relaxing and having fun in sunny San Diego. Check out our themed 3-day guide to Carlsbad!
The travel theme of day one is “Tinkering and Beer Drinking”.
Morning & Afternoon:
After breakfast in your condo at one of our three Carlsbad HGV properties, head to Legoland with early access into the park. You and your kids can be entertained for days right here at Legoland. Enjoy the rides, a water park, the Lego play areas with thousands of Legos to create until your imagination is content, and a top-notch aquarium with local sea life. Tip: For a sweet treat, their fresh baked chocolate chip cookies are amazing. You might even go back another day just to have seconds!
Late Afternoon & Evening:
Head over to Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens for a Happy Hour beer tasting and an outdoor dinner among the trees. Make sure you take a walk to admire all of the landscaping and beauty this brewery has to offer!
If you are staying at Hilton Grand Vacations Club at MarBrisa, enjoy an evening dip in the pool and roast s’mores in one of our outdoor fire pits.
The theme of day two is “Surfing Safaris”.
Grab a coffee and head to the beach! Spend the morning collecting sea-shells, surfing, boogie boarding, and building sand castles at the South Carlsbad State Beach. The large bluff overlooking the beach is a perfect spot to watch the sunrise (or sunset), and spread out a blanket for a picnic lunch.
Afternoon & Evening:
Yes, the world-famous San Diego Zoo near downtown San Diego is amazing, but equally so, is their sister habitat, The San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Take a caravan safari to see the animals in a very open environment, running, playing, and traveling. Also enjoy the cheetah run, where you can see the cheetahs galloping at full speed. Now open at the Safari Park is the Australian Walkabout where you can see kangaroos, wallabies, and more in a beautiful, new exhibit. If you are visiting during the holidays, make sure you stay until park closing to enjoy The Festival of Lights. The Safari Park lights up for the holiday season!
Our final travel day theme is “Hidden Gems.”
Wake up early for a morning walk at the hidden gem, Batiquitos Lagoon, a coastal wetland. This lagoon is one of the few remaining tidal wetlands on the southern California coast. The area is run by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife as a nature reserve and is designated a Marine Protected area.
Next, don’t miss a visit to the Miniature Engineering Craftsmanship Museum. This museum features wood and metalworking craftsmanship at the small end of the size scale. Exhibits include running internal and external combustion engines, model ships, aircraft and autos, tools, clocks, jewelry, and dollhouses. Admission is free!
Overlooking the Carlsbad Flower Fields (If they are in bloom, it is certainly worth a visit!), explore the 4C’s at the GIA Museum. Cut, clarity, color, and carat, are all waiting to sparkle for you at the incredible Gemological Institute of America. Tour the museum and school with extremely knowledgeable tour guides, and view hundreds of gems, diamonds, and other rare stones.
From beaches and theaters to fine dining and taco shops, Carlsbad Village is your North County, San Diego gem! Downtown Carlsbad is an exciting beach village that will welcome you like family. If you are here on a Wednesday, be sure to attend Wednesday evening Farmers Market to bring fresh produce back to your condo kitchen. Get tickets for a show at the Village Theater, or enjoy one of the many outdoor music festivals. If you love pizza and beer, be sure to have dinner tonight at Pizza Port (They brew all their own beers on tap.).
