Kentucky is synonymous with the best of bourbon and whiskey distilleries. But what about outside of the bluegrass state? Hilton Grand Vacations has put together a list of the 10 best distilleries in the U.S. to explore on your next vacation.

High West Distillery

Park City, Utah

High West  became Utah’s first legal distillery when it opened in 2006. The distillery was also the first in the world to offer ski-in access, allowing visitors to slide in off the mountain and sip whiskey alongside the original 250-gallon still.

High West has since expanded with a larger distillery in the mountains of nearby Wanship, Utah, where visitors can tour the facility and taste the wares.

High Wire Distilling

Charleston, South Carolina

Located in the heart of historic downtown Charleston, South Carolina, High Wire makes premium, handcrafted, small-batch spirits. This Southern distillery produces a biscuit whiskey, as well as a sorghum whiskey from sorghum grown on a Mennonite farm. 

High Wire offers tours and tastings Monday through Saturday. Tours provide an overview of the distilling process and allow guests an opportunity to see the mash, fermentation tanks, barrel aging, and bottling operations in action.

St. Augustine Distillery

St. Augustine, Florida

This community-owned distillery makes a port finished bourbon aged in barrels from nearby San Sebastian Winery. St. Augustine Distillery’s spirits capture the taste and flavors of Florida while reflecting the passion, care, and commitment of the team of people who make them. 

Take a free tour of the distillery and watch the distiller mix, mash, cook, and distill. Tours are every 30 minutes.

One Eight Distilling

District of Columbia

One Eight Distilling uses local ingredients to create bold flavors including a four-grain bourbon that deftly balances the sweetness typical of bourbon with a complexity derived from various grains and malts.

District-made Bourbon is also the first bourbon made from grain to glass in D.C. since the Prohibition.

Kings County Distillery

New York, New York

Kings County Distillery is New York City’s oldest and largest premier whiskey distillery since the Prohibition. Founded in 2010, Kings County makes handmade moonshine, bourbon, and other whiskeys. Their spirits have won numerous awards and was even named “Distillery of the Year” in 2016 by the American Distilling Institute. 

Located in the historic Brooklyn Navy Yard, distillery tours and tastings are offered Wednesday through Sunday afternoons, and the Gatehouse tasting room is open every day.

Old Dominick Distillery

Memphis, Tennessee

Dating back to the 1880s, Memphis’ Old Dominick Distillery seamlessly blends the old with the new. This pristine facility became the first place in the city to distill whiskey since the Prohibition.

Patrons can tour the property and sample cocktails while listening to live music from local musicians.

Napa Valley Distillery

Napa Valley, California

Napa is known as a wine mecca, but craft spirits also get their due at Napa Valley Distillery. The gorgeous bar in the Grand Tasting Salon in downtown Napa is home base for bourbon and other distilled liquors. It hosts special events and club memberships.

Thirteenth Colony Distilleries

Americus, Georgia

Located 130 miles from Atlanta, Thirteenth Colony produces high-quality handcrafted spirits using local ingredients and a personal touch. Thirteenth Colony Southern Bourbon is produced from a mash of corn along with rye and malted barley then aged for four years in custom American Oak Barrels for a smooth, creamy, and slightly sweet finish.

Ala Wai Distillery 

Honolulu, Hawaii 

 Ala Wai  is a small-batch distillery and the only craft whisky distillery in the Hawaiian Islands. Every batch of whisky is made differently by tweaking a small part of the whisky-making process. Whisky enthusiasts around the world can enjoy the subtle differences with every glass.

Verdi Local Distillery

Verdi, Nevada

If you are skiing in Lake Tahoe, make a stop at Verdi Local Distillery for their award-winning bourbon and spirits. Verdi makes a variety of distilled spirits, including their Mahogany Whiskey, aged on mountain mahogany, as well as a Fireball-challenging apple cinnamon whiskey.
